Will the espeakup connector work with Orca as well, or will different use
flags be required for that? Also, I thought I read somewhere of an espeak
use flag. Is that not accomplishing the same thing, or am I reading the
wrong information?

Hi James,

I would first recommend at least the following use flags:

accessibility alsa portaudio

For software speech, after you have the kernel configured, compiled and
installed, while you are in the croot, give this command:

emerge espeakup

That will install the espeakup connector and speakup.

Then, add this line to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6:

speakup_soft

Then, give this command:

rc-update add espeakup default

That will set espeakup to start automatically.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
