All, |
5 |
|
6 |
I am pleased to announce that speakup is now available as a package on |
7 |
gentoo. It requires at least gentoo-sources-2.6.25-r1 in order to run. |
8 |
|
9 |
To install it, do the following: |
10 |
|
11 |
Make sure you unmask gentoo-sources and speakup, if you haven't already, |
12 |
by doing this: |
13 |
|
14 |
echo sys-kernel/gentoo-sources >> /etc/portage/package.keywords |
15 |
echo app-accessibility/speakup >> /etc/portage/package.keywords |
16 |
|
17 |
Next, emerge, configure, compile and install the latest version of |
18 |
gentoo-sources. Make sure that /usr/src/linux points to the new kernel. |
19 |
You will not see anything about configuring speakup when you configure |
20 |
the kernel, but that is normal. |
21 |
|
22 |
After the kernel is installed, emerge speakup. This will build speakup |
23 |
as modules, outside the kernel tree. |
24 |
|
25 |
In order to have your system start speaking on boot, you need to set up |
26 |
the synth module in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 or |
27 |
/etc/conf.d/modules, depending on the version of baselayout you are |
28 |
using. |
29 |
|
30 |
I just committed this a few minutes ago, so it may take some time to go |
31 |
to the rsync mirrors; I would suggest waiting about 45 minutes after |
32 |
this message is sent then doing an emerge --sync. |
33 |
|
34 |
Please test and provide feedback. |
35 |
|
36 |
Thanks much. |
37 |
