if youu want to install a specific version, youu can do (for example):
emerge -v '=media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r1'
or
emerge -v \=media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r1
Note that becasue of the =, you need to escape it or put it in single
quotes.
