I would like to keep you updated on what's going here, while I'm |
2 |
installing gentoo on a DS25... |
3 |
Booting from CD-ROM does not work at all. A colleague installed a |
4 |
redhat 7.2 on it and I could boot it, then installing gentoo on |
5 |
another HD, chrooting in it and all the common stuff in the procedure. |
6 |
Since I have no network connectivity I downloaded all the files |
7 |
needed on a CD-RW. It should be added that, once the installation is |
8 |
complete, I could not run 'emerge' because an error in python (not |
9 |
able to load libgcc_s.so.1). I had to download python2.3, compile it |
10 |
into the redhat system and copy into the chrooted gentoo environment. |
11 |
I was quite confident that gentoo would boot, but from the SRM |
12 |
environment the DS25 freezes while trying to load the gentoo kernel... |
13 |
Now I'm trying to move the redhat kernel into the /boot partition of |
14 |
gentoo but I'm getting errors like: |
15 |
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02 |
16 |
|
17 |
or |
18 |
|
19 |
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel |
20 |
|
21 |
Actually I got the second error first, I tried to rebuild a initrd |
22 |
and then I got the second error... |
23 |
|
24 |
I have one more doubt: how the /etc/fstab would figure? I mean, |
25 |
looking at the gentoo handbook I see a *traditional* fstab, like |
26 |
|
27 |
/dev/sda2 / ext2 etc. |
28 |
|
29 |
but the redhat fstab is slightly different, meaning that the first |
30 |
entry is not the device but something like |
31 |
|
32 |
LABEL=/ / ext2 etc. |
33 |
|
34 |
Any hint on this? |
35 |
|
36 |
Thanks again |
37 |
|
