Thanks for the hint. prefixing -Wl,--allow-multiple-definition to LDFLAGS seems to do the trick. I had to modify the instructions on LDFLAGS per package[1] by adding ${PREFIX} in various places. Regards Jeff [1] http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/TIP_Safe_LDFLAGS#Per_package_LDFLAGS
