Grrrr..... I apparently installed or tried too many things.  The machine 
now locks up at reboot after displaying the login screen.  It looks like 
I'm going to have to start over and reinstall AIX.  It would probably be 
cleaner that way anyways.  Install gcc, get the fix, reinstall bash and 
go from there.
