Seems there was some mknod bit committed yesterday that caused a 
regression..? I had to pull it from the map file.. If you need my 
readelf output let me know..

also the verbosity option for sun ld will simply not allow a similar 
approach.. It comes down to passing it as an env like I am or parsing 
crle or things which are even more ugly..
