OK ... my USE flags:

Nope ... it's not there. But:

$ equery belongs libjavaplugin_oji.so
[ Searching for file(s) libjavaplugin_oji.so in *... ]
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6.0.03

So ... the library is installed, but Firefox doesn't see it.

Yep ... it was compiled with all the USE flags.

OK ... I'm going to re-emerge Firefox and see if I can get the plugin to
show up in "about:plugins".

By the way, the "URL" in question is actually an R language help page
that uses Java for searches. They might well have done something uncool
Java-wise, and this is a known issue for the R people. I also installed
seamonkey and tried to get it to work there and it didn't work, but it
didn't complain about a missing plugin either. So stay tuned ...
