I have a HP dv6000 - they're not the same but they look pretty darn
similar. I had a very hard time getting the kernel bcm43xx drivers to
work - and when they did they didn't work very well (short range was the
biggest issue for some reason). I ended up using ndiswrapper. This took
me a while to get going as well though, when I used the drivers from the
Windows Vista (64bit) install that came with it they didn't work. I
ended up finding some one the net, if you want to try it I've uploaded
the .inf to http://rapidshare.com/files/67451529/bcmwl5.inf.html

Make sure you have all the kernel options for bcm43xx disabled if you go
 the way of ndiswrapper, and make sure you still have all the wireless
options you'll need. Then just ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf; modprobe
ndiswrapper, and go from there.

Getting ndiswrapper to work with wpa_supplicant also kinda threw me, in
/etc/conf.d/net had:
wpa_supplicant_eth1="-Dndiswrapper
- -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf"

but needed:
wpa_supplicant_eth1="-Dwext -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf"
