I did think about that too, as I was using swap prefetch in
ck-sources on my desktop. I did switch back to gentoo-sources on the
desktop, and the issue persisted.

My desktop has 1GB of ram and 1GB of swap. Nomrally, my swap usage is
0/957M. When I observe the strange memory, I notice my swap is around
280K/957M.

My laptop has 2GB of ram and 2GB of swap, and I have noticed similar
results, swap does get used, but is always around 300K.

Now, I did notice something strange this morning. I booted my laptop up,
and left it at the console screen while I was working on my desktop
(drafting my previous response). After the laptop had been at the
console screen for about 90 minutes, I logged in and strated X. Right
away I saw memory usage at 375MB. The strange thing is, I downgraded to
2.6.14-gentoo-r7 on Saturday, and did not see this behavior at all over
the weekend.. I did notice when I was merging 2.6.14-r7 this weekend
there were a lot of references to 2.6.15 patches, so I am not sure what
is going on here. I do know that prior to some upgrade a couple of weeks
ago, everything was "normal", and now it's not.

Again, the memory creep only happens when the system is idle. I have
been typing on my desktop for over 2 hours, and memory is only 133MB
right now with most of my normal applications running.

I will see if I can roll back to an earlier kernel in 2.6.14 (I believe
I was using -r5 without issue) and see if that corrects the problem....

Thanks,
Brett
