i think i've found the problem: there's a libstdc++.so.6 symlink in
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64_amd64/4.3.1/32/ that is broken and i think that
this (since qlist indicates it as belonging to gcc 4.3.1, while equery
b doesn't find it) is the main issue. for some reason i think that
portage has removed this needed file.
