Yout Realtek card:
-- requires the 8139too module (look at dmesg output);
-- is likely set as eth1, not eth0.
I'm writing a gentoo-wiki page about my installation steps. It is not
yet finished (would you contribute? ;-), but I cite other three pages
about similar HP notebooks (zv6000 and dv8000) where you can find
hints about wifi, Broadcom and ndiswrapper.
