I think it has been.  I'm running mysql-5.1.50-r1 here, for kde4 (now 
4.5.1) no probs.  (I did the emerge --emptytree thing after the gcc 4.5.0 
upgrade, but not after 4.5.1 as everything had compiled with 4.5.0.)  
That's with an all ~arch system, plus the kde and xorg overlays, with the 
latest kde4 unmasked, along with gcc 4.5.0 and now 4.5.1.
