Subject: Default Gentoo Linux kernel rolled back to 2.4.17-r5
Date: 17 Mar 2002 16:47:44 -0700
Hi All,

Just a quick message that the default Gentoo Linux kernel has moved back
to 2.4.17-r5 -- it was 2.4.18. If you are using 2.4.18, there is no
reason for you to switch to the earlier kernel; we've just found
2.4.17-r5 to give much better desktop performance, and 2.4.18 has some
compile-time problems for some people. If 2.4.18 compiled for you, it
should work for you. If you're using a desktop Gentoo Linux system, you
may want to go back to 2.4.17-r5 for better performance.

Best Regards,
