9 I'm not sure what you are saying isn't an option, here, but you don't have
10 to be actually running OSS. Just compile the OSS compatibility modules
11 for ALSA, and apps should be able to use either or both depending on what
12 they /can/ use. That has generally worked here (altho I /did/ have
13 problems with any of the fancy ARTS stuff in Mandrake for AMD64, ARTS
14 itself would run, but any time I tried any effects or anything it would go
15 mute, and noatun and the like apparently used the same sort of effects so
16 didn't work either, tho xmms and system sound effects played just fine
17 thru ARTS -- I haven't had the problem on Gentoo, tho I'm not using that
18 card).
