I'm not sure what you are saying isn't an option, here, but you don't have |

to be actually running OSS. Just compile the OSS compatibility modules |

for ALSA, and apps should be able to use either or both depending on what |

they /can/ use. That has generally worked here (altho I /did/ have |

problems with any of the fancy ARTS stuff in Mandrake for AMD64, ARTS |

itself would run, but any time I tried any effects or anything it would go |

mute, and noatun and the like apparently used the same sort of effects so |

didn't work either, tho xmms and system sound effects played just fine |

thru ARTS -- I haven't had the problem on Gentoo, tho I'm not using that |
