John,

I got rid of "gailtreeview.c" errors and crashes by unmerging gail as well as
libgail and at-spi which I unmerged at your direction and which got rid of most
of the nasty crashes and freezes in gnome-panel. I get warnings from Gnome and
gtk, but everything seems to be stable.

I'll try to reach you tomorrow on FreeNode and see if you want to work on the
memory de-allocation problems in at-spi. I'll have to re-emerge the two
additional packages I've unmerged.

Is the at-spi and gail stuff still maintained by Sun Microsystems? Will they
fix a problem upstream in a reasonable time if you pin-point the code error?
It's odd that I'm not seeing this particular problem on my laptop system
(running Ubuntu Breezy Badger) which has at-spi 1.6.6.
