I changed nvidia to nv and the desktop looks better now.... I wonder whats
wrong!!

This does seem relevant, but I don't what it means. Can you use the
"nv" driver successfully? In your xorg.conf, set
# Driver "nvidia"
Driver "nv"
in the relevant section. If X works then, at least we know it's just
your nvidia driver that's broke. Does it modprobe/rmmod without errors?
