Sigh... |
15 |
|
16 |
<strong-personal-opinion> |
17 |
|
18 |
I offset the remark with <strong-personal-opinion> |
19 |
</strong-personal-opinion>. I said "what I personally call...", and "what |
20 |
I consider", and stated that I understand others don't hold the same |
21 |
opinions and even that were I to force my opinions on them it would IMO be |
22 |
worse than the "slaveryware". |
23 |
|
24 |
If you can't simply accept it as my opinion, even with *ALL* those |
25 |
disclaimers to that effect, if you can't simply skip the paragraph so |
26 |
clearly marked off as <strong-personal-opinion>, than that's your problem, |
27 |
not mine. "Slaveryware" *IS* my personal opinion on the subject, and |
28 |
while you may disagree, and have every right to challenge it publicly, it |
29 |
still remains my personal opinion, which I too have the right to hold, |
30 |
just as you hold yours, and to express. |
31 |
|
32 |
I'm aware of the previous discussions, and they are the reason I wrapped |
33 |
it in the strong-opinion tags, for those who can't stomach such things. |
34 |
More than that, I don't believe you have justification for asking of me, |
35 |
save the same liberty to express your own opinion as I have to express |
36 |
my own. |
37 |
|
38 |
As for the slavery issue, many of them had strong opinions on the subject |
39 |
as well, and some of thse ended up paying for them with their lives. |
40 |
Sure, this hasn't yet come to that, but it's certainly not beyond the |
41 |
possible that the ideals of freedomware might at some point cost someone |
42 |
their livelihood, and even their freedom, if law such as the DMCA |
43 |
continues to be made. Freedomware is a concept I believe in strongly |
44 |
enough that I (at least like to think I... one never can say for sure |
45 |
until faced with the stark question) could choose to exercise the rights I |
46 |
believe I hold, even at the cost of my freedom, if it comes to that, and |
47 |
my use of the terms freedomware and slaveryware are intended to emphasize |
48 |
the strength of that belief. I (hope I) would choose the ideals of |
49 |
freedom, even if it cost me my own. Is that something you can say for the |
50 |
concept of freedom software, or indeed, freedom in general? Not that I'm |
51 |
necessarily willing to condemn anyone who can't say they'd make the same |
52 |
choice, because it is after all a very personal choice, but I'm glad there |
53 |
are at least a /few/ out there that consider it, and proud to be one of |
54 |
them. |
