|
9 |
Yes, I upgraded my kernel and my /usr/src/linux link is proper. I used the |
10 |
stable version of nvidia-kernel and it didn't work. dmesg says this: |
11 |
|
12 |
nvidia: Unknown symbol remap_page_range |
13 |
nvidia: Unknown symbol pci_find_class |
14 |
|
15 |
So I upgraded to the unstable nvidia drivers, and ran 'eselect opengl set |
16 |
nvidia' which allowed me to start the X server, at least, with the nvidia |
17 |
driver running. |
18 |
|
19 |
Now gnome won't run, although I can start a kde session. I get the following |
20 |
when I run startx as my normal user: |
21 |
|
22 |
Bonobo accessibility support initialized |
23 |
GTK Accessibility Module initialized |
24 |
|
25 |
** ERROR **: Accessibility app error: exception during registry activation from |
26 |
id: IDL:Bonobo/GeneralError:1.0 |
27 |
|
28 |
Running revdep-rebuild shows a ton of broken lib references, but it's trying to |
29 |
rebuild slotted packages which are no longer in the portage tree, and the |
30 |
syntax it's feeding to emerge is broken and causing emerge to fail, maybe due |
31 |
to recent changes in portage output. I don't know if this is the problem, but |
32 |
it's a place to start. Upgrading gentoolkit helped with the syntax issue, |
33 |
apparently. |
34 |
|
35 |
Quite frankly, I'm getting a bit gun-shy with gentoo. I know it produces a |
36 |
very optimized set of executable components, but the last couple of times I've |
37 |
tried to upgrade my desktop system it's been an all day job getting things back |
38 |
to normal again. I just don't have that kind of time. |
39 |
|
40 |
Still pluggin' away, though :-) |
