GMANE provides an alternative service for most mailing lists. c.f. bug 424647

Not only resources, but also time. If your hardware is anything but
bleeding edge, the loading of all these libraries will take quite a lot
of time, so even if the app is just a minimal CD player or so, it will
be slow to load.
