but none of the masking or keywords work. It seems that gnucash is dead.
I wonder why it is in portage at all?  

If anyone has any suggestions, fixes, or real experience as how to
emerge it before tax time that would be great! If you are using it now,
don't emerge NuDav world whatever you do!
