Now, what it could really use is a *bunch* more testing.
And really, would it be that hard to
"cp /usr/share/doc/baselayout-1.9.4-r6/fstab.example /etc/fstab" before
running nano -w fstab?
It would be a simple step that would keep the fstab from every being
automatically overwritten by a baselayout upgrade.
