It was the only way I could get xchat to work, and there's a recoverable |

gnome-panel crash that produces the same error. It's easily emerged |

again. I'm going to try patching gail to remove the asserts. and see if |

I can get rid of the related crashes. AFAIK, asserts are only a useful |
| 21 |
tool in development. It's at least worth a try. |
