Dear gentledevelopers, |
2 |
|
3 |
I discovered Gentoo Linux a few days ago and find it's port concept |
4 |
to be very fascinating. As I am a frequent writer for the german |
5 |
Linux Magazin, I decided to prepare an article about that distribution |
6 |
for one of the next issues -- after I get the 'build installation' |
7 |
cross-compiled for my laptop =) |
8 |
|
9 |
To have more than just a pure description of the installation process |
10 |
and the features of the distribution, I ask for two things: |
11 |
|
12 |
First, I would appreciate anything pointed out that is important to know |
13 |
about gentoo and that is not covered on the website or the faq. I know |
14 |
this is quite an unspecific question, but as I do not know what is _not_ |
15 |
in the faq, i can't get more specific ;) User reports would be appreciated |
16 |
as well, bad ones as well as positive ones, as I would prefer a balanced |
17 |
view on gentoo. |
18 |
|
19 |
Second, I did not find a hint on the site who is considered the 'inventor' |
20 |
or current maintainer of gentoo. Gentoo Technologies is mentiond on the |
21 |
bottom of each page, but gentootech.net is an empty page. I would |
22 |
appreciate having a short interview with someone who can be considered 'in |
23 |
charge', if there |
24 |
is such a person. The only hint I found was Daniel Robbins being called a |
25 |
chief architect in the Documentation Guide. Interview would include |
26 |
asking questions on the whereabouts of gentoo, why, when, where, you |
27 |
get the point. The portage system and its differences to apt-get |
28 |
and *bsd ports would be covered as well. This may already be part of the |
29 |
faq, but it's important to be included in an article. |
30 |
|
31 |
If this thing does not belong on the list, please use one of the email |
32 |
addresses in my signature for private messages. |

35 |
happy hacking, |
