One, I like gentoo, so far. |
2 |
Two there a number of issues I have though. |
3 |
|
4 |
a) downloaded both versions (long and optimized, and fast and not). |
5 |
b) I have an Athlon, so whether or not the whole thing works when I |
6 |
finally get done is another issue. |
7 |
c) I am using the 686 optimized install and noticed (so far) the |
8 |
following bugs: |
9 |
1) Can't install just tarball one, it doesn't include the make.profile |
10 |
file, this is in the stage 2 tarball. I used the 3 stage install because |
11 |
I wanted to have the option of doing either install from one cd. Can't |
12 |
emerge rsync without stage 2, even though one doesn't need to. |
13 |
|
14 |
2) Can't just install tarball one and two. Can't bootstrap.sh without |
15 |
stage 3 [see ref to item 1]. |
16 |
|
17 |
3) 686 install missing zoneinfo directory. Can't set localtime. And |
18 |
leaves a bad-link in your mouth. [created bogus link, don't know what |
19 |
damage that will do to my system until I can install the real zoneinfo |
20 |
files] |
21 |
4) 686 install doesn't compile/install c++ ! |
22 |
Rule A) Always compile c++! |
23 |
Rule B) Refer to Rule A. |
24 |
5) X won't compile. See Rule A item 4. |
25 |
[I fixed this by hacking the gcc emerge file and recompiling gcc, |
26 |
sigh] |
27 |
|
28 |
6) emerge .../kde-something finds and installs all dependencies! Cool! |
29 |
[well except for item 4, which is really a dependency for X and qt] |
30 |
|
31 |
Hopefully tonight I'll be able to finish installing without anymore |
32 |
snafus. |
33 |
|
34 |
PS. I'll probably steal your install and portage and make my own |
35 |
modified gentoo-for-the-masses distro [maybe call it gentwee]. :') |
36 |
|
37 |
Peace, |
