Hi, |
2 |
|
3 |
The net-wireless/linux-wlan-ng package, a driver for Prism2/2.5/3 based |
4 |
IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN cards, is scheduled for package.mask due to |
5 |
the following reasons: |
6 |
|
7 |
* The package is currently unmaintained |
8 |
* There are 9 open bugs for it |
9 |
* The same functionality is provided by net-wireless/hostap-driver |
10 |
and/or net-wireless/orinoco-cvs (the latter especially for USB adapters) |
11 |
* The upstream author recommends using other drivers if possible |
12 |
* The package hasn't seen a stable release since 2003-03-04, where |
13 |
version 0.2.0 was released. |
14 |
* The last 0.2.1 pre-release was almost 6 months ago |
15 |
* The driver doesn't work with net-wireless/wireless-tools, but provides |
16 |
it's own, unique configuration tool |
17 |
* It doesn't integrate with existing Gentoo networking scripts |
18 |
|
19 |
If you would like to take over maintaining this package and fixing the |
20 |
above mentioned quirks, please speak up - else it will be package.masked |
21 |
in a week from now. |
22 |
|
23 |
If you have an (USB?) adapter, which works with linux-wlan-ng, but not |
24 |
with orinoco-cvs, I would like to hear about that too. |
25 |
|
26 |
Sincerely, |
27 |
Brix |
