hmm, I'm exclusively using bzip2 and never had these problems
yet. maybe it depends on the compressor type.

Why ? Because of traffic ? Of course, distros should work
from their own clones (yes, yes, I'm assuming modern VCS'es,
not toys like svn ;-p)
