We've already spoken to him about the changes several times, and it's quite 
clear that he either can't or won't understand why it's bad to make 
incompatible changes without thinking of the consequences or telling anyone 
else who might be affected, leaving them to find out months later when their 
users complain about their systems being broken by an ebuild that relies the 
secret new behaviour.

He didn't even give an explanation of why the change is needed; just that it's 
more consistent, which is true but certainly not a valid reason to break 
things, and that he "didn't consider it to be especially noteworthy", 
indicating that he should perhaps start thinking things through more 
carefully in the future.
