Try "bzip2 -sdc", which will tell bzip2 to reduce memory usage. Yes, it is
quite odd that you are running out of memory with 64Mb, and may have more to do
with the 2.4 kernels' tendency to use lots of swap, which you don't really have
with the boot/root disk combo. I hope that "-sdc" works for you. If you still
have problems, try enabling some swap first.
