Thanks, found them. I can see why the ebuild is masked, because it
fails. However, it built fine following the ebuild instructions
outside of portage. I kept the sources in
/mnt/downloads/java/j2sdk-1.4.0 and installed into /opt/sun-jdk-1.4.0
