I'm only a dev for a short time, but I can say that there are some points
discussed that could have a place on -dev, but might not be compatible to the
topic of gentoo-dev. An example of today is where Dan Armak asked other
developers (After I came to him with the question) what to do with the many
bugs that in some way or another involve gcc failures. Either segfaults
during the build process or internal compiler errors etc. Those bugs are a
problem as they tend to stay open a lot, and most of the time never get to a
satisfactory conclusion (After being silent a long time they are marked
INVALID). There is nothing private about it.

Another point why I believe core is used is that gentoo-dev has a rather high
trafic and is les read by developers. Often people ask a question on core to
get a fast answer, but want it to be more solid than IRC.

ps. be assured that this topic is also discussed on core and that you are
being heard
