However, to completely disregard USE, which imho, is a mechanism that makes Gentoo so great, defeats the purpose of having a meta-distribution which allows fine grained tweaking.

If anyone has productive ideas about how to improve it, please let us know. No offense, but bitching about things and making empty complaints is just trollbait.

One question I have about USE flags is what the policy is on binary
software with some optional functionality achived through additional
binaries. Should a USE flag be used to toggle the installaiton of these
binaries or should they just be installed? I know, this is not the user
side of the issue but thought this was an appropriate place to ask.
