Subject: Opinions on a "sys-boot" category for bootloaders
Date: Fri, 14 Nov 2003 20:50:34 -0500
I'd like to get opinions on what people think about creating a sys-boot
category for the various bootloaders. A majority (if not all of them)
can be found in sys-apps currently.

At the moment, I can identify 10 different packages for bootloaders for
the various architectures:

sys-apps/aboot (Alpha w/ SRM)
sys-apps/dvhtool (Mips)
sys-apps/grub (x86)
sys-apps/grub-static (x86)
sys-apps/lilo (x86)
sys-apps/milo (Alpha w/o SRM)
sys-apps/palo (Hppa/Parisc)
sys-apps/silo (Sparc)
sys-apps/syslinux (CD-ROM)
sys-apps/yaboot (PPC)

There are some other bootloaders not in portage yet that could join this
group. A couple I know off the top of my head are arcboot (Mips), nuni
(x86), and u-boot (universal).

Anyone else knows of some bootloaders not in portage that'd fit into a
category like this, chime in as well.
