GMANE provides an alternative service for most mailing lists. c.f. bug 424647
I wrote this ebuild a while ago. There were problems I didn't understand
because I couldn't reproduce them; I fixed them AFAIK, but rather by trial
and error.
One of them seemed to be that sometimes a libXaw3d.so.6.something was built,
and sometimes 7.0.
Somone familiar with all this (maybe also with manually building Xfree)
should look at this.
