/etc/make.profile is a link to /usr/portage/profiles/default

Is that /etc/make.profiles in the snapshot?

Because you had that problem I thought you might have copied it instead
of symkinking it, Because we fixed
the virtulas file a few days ago.
Could you install kde-i18n-de?
