ATA support for HTP34X and HTP366 chipsets is build in in the default
kernel, if the HPT370 works
with them it should work under gentoo too. There is no special module
for that chipset in the
current kernel at all.

You mean u can't install, correct ?

Does the kernel show a message that it detects your ATA adapter?
