Hello! |
2 |
|
3 |
A non-dev trying to influence what happens... (and cross-posting again) |
4 |
|
5 |
I know now, that uclibc works w/ gentoo, but only if all "players" are |
6 |
intending to support that. |
7 |
|
8 |
Until the base system is not adapted trouble is sure w/ people |
9 |
intending to test the uclibc stuff, supporting them is quite a problem, |
10 |
because the produced stages are not gentoo-conform, so the glibc knowledge |
11 |
is not enough to create a full uclibc based system. |
12 |
|
13 |
To have proper uclibc stages |
14 |
sys-apps/portage; dev-util/catalyst; profiles/uclibc; scripts have to be |
15 |
adapted/corrected, and I see that these are not done (depend on people w/o |
16 |
uclibc interest) |
17 |
Also there are problems w/ updates, the updated packages omit the uclibc |
18 |
stuff again, so I'll really tend to add the patches w/o use uclibc |
19 |
where possible (in most cases, they won't influence glibc usage) |
20 |
|
21 |
So my questions: |
22 |
1. When can portage be used for uclibc? |
23 |
2. When will catalyst add the needed stuff? |
24 |
3. When will python be updated (this is a generic problem, not only |
25 |
an uclibc one, I wonder how it worked for now since python-2.3) |
26 |
4. When will the bootstrap scripts be updated? |
27 |
|
28 |
The needed patches were already sent either to toolchain or |
29 |
gentoo-embedded, but I will provide them again if necessary. |
30 |
|
31 |
Until the above changes are not done, an overlay tree has to be used. |
32 |
|
33 |
Thanks, Peter |
