As far as I understand, when open-embedded was thinking on |

how to design their build system, there where people that |

liked the idea and works of portage, but the problem was |

that at that point portage was quite far form crosscompiling |

form one arch into another. And to make it crosscompile |

there it needed to be changed substantially. |

So they decided to make their portage alike (+ some other |

nice features) build system specifically designed for |

crosscompiling. |

On the other hand, gentoo (this includes gentoo-embedded) |

is designed for the situation where host arch = target arch. |

(It looks like there is some active development in adding |

crosscompilation capabilities to portage, but I don't |

have any knowledge about the state of this or what direction |

is it taking.) |
