9 As far as I understand, when open-embedded was thinking on
10 how to design their build system, there where people that
11 liked the idea and works of portage, but the problem was
12 that at that point portage was quite far form crosscompiling
13 form one arch into another. And to make it crosscompile
14 there it needed to be changed substantially.

16 So they decided to make their portage alike (+ some other
17 nice features) build system specifically designed for
18 crosscompiling.

20 On the other hand, gentoo (this includes gentoo-embedded)
21 is designed for the situation where host arch = target arch.
22 (It looks like there is some active development in adding
23 crosscompilation capabilities to portage, but I don't
24 have any knowledge about the state of this or what direction
25 is it taking.)
