Tobias Scherbaum mentioned in his new book (in german only: Gentoo Linux. The 
Meta-Distribution) that such an API is already planned. He called it EAPI in 
the book and it should give all portage frontends a well defined acces point 
into the emerge system. Has anyone heard about that?
