Actually, I checked with the RedHat guys, and re-read the ECJ post by
Tom. Apparently, changes to GCC in the last years now allow pretty
efficient compilation of the bytecode after all. Yay!

Andrew Overholt maintains the Eclipse rpms for Fedora. They do heavy
patching of Eclipse to get all of it working. You want might want to
take a look at his work:
