I’ve been very busy lately. So much that my time for Gentoo has been
very nil. Finally set aside a few chunks of time today to work on some
Foundation <http://foundation.gentoo.org> stuff:

Q3 and Q4 financial updates are now online. I had the Q3 report done
shortly after the quarter ended but left it in my sandbox . In the end,
the delay on both was my fault. See the bottom of
http://foundation.gentoo.org/funds.xml

Went through the list of paypal contributors from 2005 and made a “Thank
you” page. Every little donation counts, and I cringe every time
someone’s paypal comment says “I’m sorry I can’t give more” (seriously,
we’re happy with anything! don’t apologize!). See the list at

501(c)(6) update - I sent the first draft of our 501(c)(6) app to the
rest of the Board this afternoon. Feedback deadline is one week, when I
will then pass it on to our legal counsel. This is just the beginning,
as we will need to make sure every “t” is crossed and every “i” dotted.
I still am unclear about what our financial abilities are and what our
reporting should be like here. They may reply to me with a big “WTF is
this?”. We shall see.

Just to clarify here, depending on what you are doing, most cases you
are a 501(c)(6) without applying federally. It can be assumed until you
do file, and in some cases never need to file federally. However, we are
reaching a point financially where we must file and then file IRS
reports annually. For those who have asked me why we have not filed yet,
I took a snapshot of the instructions which includes a handy little
table of estimated time to complete the application. Granted, our app is
not taking this long, but then again, I may be doing it wrong. :)
