Gentoo Foundation
Funding Request
The purpose of this form is to allow the foundation to keep track of funding
requests in an organized fashion, instead of having a collection of e-mails, IRC
conversations, etc.
This form has a specific format. All of the sections start at the left side of
the form. They have a short name and a description. Insert your responses after
the examples, one tab in. A sample form is available at <INSERT LOCATION>.
Before submitting this form, all the requesters must GPG sign it to prove
their identities and to show that they support the request.
Requesters: Names and nicks of people involved in this request. At least one
of them must be a manager. If the foundation cannot directly purchase the
request, the first requester will receive access to funding.
Corey Shields (cshields), Lance Albertson (ramereth)
Deadline (optional): Day Month Year. This may not be applicable in all cases.
1 July 2005
Priority: Urgent, High, Medium or Low (select one)
High
Amount requested: This must be in U.S. dollars.
$350 USD
Funding type and duration: One-time or ongoing budget. If ongoing budget, put
the budget's ending date as well as the reason it must be ongoing.
short-term budget
The budget time period will be from the approval of this proposal until after a week
after LWE (August 19, 2005)
Funding disbursement: Will the foundation directly purchase the equipment,
or must the funds be given to a requester? If they must be given to a requester,
state why.
Requester - Some items in the budget are not able to be purchased ahead of time (unexpected expenses), and the rest is for convenience.
Problem solved: Describe the problem this funding would solve. If the problem is
actually a set of mostly unrelated problems, please file a separate request
for each one.
Better promotion of Gentoo Linux at the 2005 LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco
Justification: Provide any available information to show that your
requested funding will be sufficient for your problem.
In previous years of LWE either Daniel has taken care of things out of
pocket, one year IU paid for a lot of things, and we have also relied
upon booth donations in the past. None of these methods provides for
preparing materials ahead of time to give away. It's always a personal
peeve of mine to spend a week talking about Gentoo and not be able to
give visitors anything with our website or name to take home. The order
of flyers could cover a large demand (there will be about 5,000 - 7,000
visitors to LWE this year, but not all of them will want a flyer of
course). If there are extra flyers we can save them for the next
conference.
I'm assuming we will have a tip jar again this year (we usually do). It
typically brings in one to a few hundred dollars. Any money made will
be returned to the Foundation as per instructions on the web site. My
purpose in stating this is not to guarantee that the budget will be
refunded, but to note that some of it will.
The purpose of this proposal (and our presence at LWE) is to help
further public knowledge of Gentoo.
Alternative to this proposal is to not have a budget at all. I have no
plans of funding flyers and such myself, so we may not have them
otherwise. (I don't mean that to sound as a threat, just to be thorough
in this email)
