Hi,
IMHO Linux has very good caching mechanism, so there is no need of
ramdisks (er, ramfs or tmpfs) in most situations.
On the contrary, Solaris is using tmpfs for /tmp and /var/run. I really
like this idea, so after Gentoo install I always add
none /tmp tmpfs size=64M,mode=1777 0 0
to my fstab. Your preferences may differ.
