GMANE provides an alternative service for most mailing lists. c.f. bug 424647

Not really. It works best on x86 (and might still be in the unstable
(~x86) profile). Just when you merge a new library, you usually need to
re-run prelink so that all the startup tricks prelink does to speed
things up gets reloaded into the libs.
