Hi, |
2 |
|
3 |
does anyone have hints/suggestions how to use an external |
4 |
monitor (i.e., => beamer) with an ibook2 having an ATI Rage128 |
5 |
card (not radeon!). I am running a kernel compiled from |
6 |
the linux-2.4.20-ppc-r2 sources, xfree 4.2.99.4, and the |
7 |
drm module is the one from xfree-drm (not the kernel!) |
8 |
|
9 |
My "successes" to date are as follows: |
10 |
|
11 |
(1) Use the XF86Config generated by Xeasyconfig, modified for a |
12 |
german keyboard. Boot without external monitor. Hook up monitor, |
13 |
and activate the external display with m3mirror. The LCD screen is |
14 |
mirrored, but the picture wobbles horribly; no way you can give |
15 |
a presentation that way :-( BTW, both X and the console |
16 |
have this wobbling! |
17 |
|
18 |
(2) Boot with the external monitor. Now m3mirror can mirror |
19 |
the console without problems, but once you go into X colors and |
20 |
sizes are totally off (the picture looks like a distorted |
21 |
640x480 with virtual 1024x768 screen, color is brownish when |
22 |
it shoul be grayish etc) :-( |
23 |
|
24 |
(3) Revert to plan (1) [no external monitor during boot], but |
25 |
extend the XF86Config file to have |
26 |
two ServerLayout->Screen->Monitor sections, and wrap everything |
27 |
in a script to switch (m3mirror) between LCD and external monitor |
28 |
[this just to be on the safe side when trying eg 1280x1024 |
29 |
resolutions externally]. I think my basic XF86Config approach |
30 |
is OK since I can force the system eg to 1280x1024 resolution |
31 |
on th external monitor, *but* again there are way too many |
32 |
distortions to make this usable :-( Combining this extended |
33 |
XF86Config with (2) doesn't produce anything usable either :-( |
34 |
|
35 |
Any hints/hacks appreciated, |
36 |
|
