GMANE provides an alternative service for most mailing lists. c.f. bug 424647
When running through the boot sequence pmud spits out all the daemon
messages (where a simple [ok] would surfice)
/etc/init.d/pmud start() stop() should prehaps read:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec /sbin/pmud -- $PMUD_FLAGS
>/dev/null 2>&1
start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --exec /sbin/pmud >/dev/null 2>&1
