Subject: [gentoo-announce] Announce: KDE CVS ebuilds

Hello everyone,

I've finally brought the kde cvs ebuilds up to speed. See
http://www.gentoo.org/~danarmak/kde-cvs.html for info and downloads.

The KDE CVS ebuilds are in-testing ebuilds for in-testing software. Only use
them if you're prepared to be a beta-tester for me and an alpha-tester for
kde. Unless you have some very good reasons for running kde cvs HEAD code,
there's no real reason for you to use them; stop reading here.

However, they happily live side-by-side with a stable kde installation, so
there's no risk of havig no working stable kde (but see the Issues with
multiple KDEs heading on my webpage linked above).

Featureset in brief:
- - ebuilds download current cvs HEAD sources and compile and install them in
the usual way. You can use your already checked out kde cvs moudles, too.
- - Choose a cvs mirror server. Switches servers in CVS/Root files
automatically.
- - cvsup support has been removed (i.e. from the kde3-pre era); kdevelop,
koffice and i18n cvs ebuilds are still missing (to be done tomorrow).
Prerelease (3.1_alpha1) ebuilds now live in generic portage (if you haven't
noticed yet).
- - All KDE versions live happily side by side.
- - Many other features planned, see website.

The webpage is pretty much exhaustive (except in its listing of known issues),
so I won't repeat the details here. If you're interested, go and read it.
Email me with any bugreports or suggestions. Enjoy!

Oh, and I highly recommend using ccache. It enables me to emerge kdelibs (with
gcc3) in 20 minutes instead of an hour and a half. It's great for nightly cvs
builds.
