I have compiled and  used

games-emulation/visualboyadvance-1.7.1

for a couple of weeks, on ppc. It seems completely stable. It has not 
crashed, and has worked with ~10 roms that me and my kids have tried, so 
far. Perhaps it could be bumped to ppc stable.
