GMANE provides an alternative service for most mailing lists. c.f. bug 424647
just did a fresh install of gentoo from the 2004.0 livecd on my ibook
g3 (700MHz).
here are some packages I installed which don't have the ppc keyword, or
are only marked ~ppc. They all work fine.
