no, i am using the BenH kernels, running 2.4.20-r8 (with a patch to make
the sleep code for the graphics card work); in the CHANGES from 2.4.20-r8
to 2.4.20-r10 i can't find anything that seems related to my problem.
(but once i have the time for it, i might compile the most recent kernel
anyways...)

i don't have the problem during each compile, it seems to happen with
bigger compiles (like during a mozilla compile).  i am using ccache in
case that'd make a difference.

well.. i searched and found some pages about linux on iBook when i
installed linux on it, your page was one of them and your work on that
page is appreciated :)

i know, but my guess is that this works by renice-ing the xmms process and
that this will only work when (1) you run xmms as root or (2) xmms has the
suid bit (so in both cases, the binary runs with root privileges). i'd
rather not do that.
